The Unitarian Church of Marlborough and Hudson is pleased to sponsor the Field of Flags Exhibit from June 2nd until July 4th. We will be having an interfaith service on Flag Day, June 14th at 11:00. Please visit this web site again soon for the details of this service. We will also be having a short closing ceremony on July 4th at 11:00.
This is a traveling exhibit. Last Fall it was at the Unitarian Church in Hopedale, Massachusetts. The first church to display the exhibit this spring was the First Baptist Church in Holden, Massachusetts. That display is scheduled to be up from 3 May to 31 May.
This exhibit originated with the Somers Congregational Church Memorial Garden Committee in Somers, CT. They have written the official purpose of the exhibit as follows:
“The Field of Flags is not meant to be a political statement; it is a silent, patriotic and poignant reminder of the cost of war. Each flag represents not simply one causality, but all the family members and friends who have been touched by that life now gone. They represent our respect for those who have served and are currently serving in the military and our hope for peace in the future, for a time when no one is called upon by our country to give the greatest sacrifice. We ask that you keep all of these families in your prayers”.
