June Magic School News
MAGIC SCHOOL NEWS
The kids in the Magic of Kindness pre-school and kindergarten class have been learning about kindness to the Earth, planting flowers and talking about animal feelings. They also sponsored a Mother’s Day Tea which was greatly enjoyed by mothers and non-mothers alike. This event raised $70, which will be donated to NEADS as part of our effort to raise enough money to earn the right to name one of their service dog puppies.
Grade school students made bath fizzes and soaps to give to their mothers. Extras will be sold at the Hudson Town Test, see below.
The 1st-5th graders in Year I of Magic School have been making plans to beautify our courtyard. Check out their dioramas, which will be on display during coffee hour in early June. They also learned about the importance of transforming prejudice into the celebration of diversity.
The 6th-9th graders in Year II of Magic School are continuing to create a fantasy board game based on a futuristic society. Strategy, imagination, cooperation, and a little bit of dumb luck will be required as players attempt to build peaceful, stable communities.
SNEAK PREVIEW: COMING SOON TO A MAGIC SCHOOL NEAR YOU
June 11: Intergeneration service which will showcase some of the work our children have accomplished this year.
June 18: Don’t miss the final challenge of our Magical Tournament, which will include water based fun. Please note, June 18 will be the last day of religious education classes until the fall.
Summer months: Child care will be provided for young children, but there will be no religious education classes.
THE FUTURE OF MAGIC
It’s time to be thinking of next year. Our religious education program requires many hands in order to run smoothly — please think about what you might be able to contribute to this vital aspect of our congregational life. I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding teaching or assisting in a class next fall.
HUDSON TOWN FEST
Come support our efforts to name a NEADS service puppy and buy cauldron chemistry concoctions made by our grade school students. Included will be bath fizzies, bath salts, and soap. We will have a table set up near the book sale at the town fest on Sat. June 3, from 10:00 - 3:00.
ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE
Thanks to the following teachers and assistants: Amy, Jennifer, Erica, Wilhelmina, Lauren, Alan, Wendy, Barbara, and Steve.
HARRY POTTER TRIVIA QUIZOur kids in Year II of Magic School (Grades 5-9) have agreed to participate in a fundraising trivia contest in our effort to raise money for NEADS, Dogs for Disabled and Deaf Americans. $500 will win us the right to name one of their service dog puppies. ($1,000 would win us the right to name two!) We will be looking for folks to sponsor them by pledging an amount of money for every question they answer correctly. You should be forewarned: there will be 100 questions and these kids REALLY know their Harry Potter trivia!
EVALUATING OUR PROGRAM
Parents and teachers: if you have not yet done so, please fill out and return the evaluation form you received in May. This information will be used to formulate goals for next year, and will also be used as an evaluation of my work as your religious education director. Please share your honest thoughts, wishes, affirmations and criticisms so we can continue to offer a dynamite program to our families.
MAGIC MONTH
Thank you to the many adults who participated in “May is Magic Month,” claiming their own magical acts and witnessing to those magical acts of others in the congregation. Come to our intergenerational service on June 11 to learn more about the magical acts of courage, kindness, persistence and creativity we have all engaged in this year.
Yours in Faith,
Alice Anacheka-Nasemann
