Magical Happenings for Dec. 10, 2006
from Alice Anacheka-Nasemann, Director of Religious Education
Today’s Classes:
- Nursery (0-2): Adult Volunteer with Kelly Anne
- Pre-School-Kindergarten: Wendy with Chelsea. The class will learn about the importance of candles in a variety of religious traditions and will make candle holders.
- 1st- 6th Grades: Lauren, Jennifer & Jackie. Students will play a couple of games that teach the Unitarian Universalist principle of justice, equity and compassion.
- 7th-9th Grades: Students begin a series of classes about Christianity as they continue to learn about world religions.
- CHILD PICK-UP: Parents, please remember to pick up your child (through 6th grade) from his or her classroom at 11:45. Alice will ring a bell to remind you to do so at the appropriate time.
- COFFEE HOUR & CHILDCARE: Our babysitters will be available in the parish hall until 12:20 to play games and make simple crafts with kids for the first part of coffee hour.
FAMILY & ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
- PLAYGROUP: Our playgroup meets on Thursday mornings from 9:30-11:30 at church. Please invite your friends!
- SECRET ELVES: For the next month children and adults will have an opportunity to get to know one another better through becoming a “secret elf.” Starting this afternoon, Dec. 10, participating kids and adults will be given a secret friend for whom they will leave small gifts and identification clues at church until Jan. 14, when the mysteries will be revealed at a special party. Sign up during coffee hour or contact Alice by phone or e-mail today only. Alice will call or e-mail you with the name of your secret friend this afternoon. Cubbies will be set up in the parish hall starting next Sunday, Dec. 17, for the anonymous exchange of treats, cards and gifts.
- GUEST AT YOUR TABLE: There are plenty of boxes available if you would like to welcome a “guest at your table” to support the important work of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. Boxes will be due back at church on Sunday, January 14. For more information or for a box, see Alice during coffee hour.
- SOAP FOR SALE: Support the charitable efforts of the kids in our classes and buy handmade soap, candles or fuse bead ornaments. 50% of proceeds will be donated to our church, 50% of proceeds to a local animal shelter, as determined by a vote of the children.
