Soul Matters Sharing Circle Sunday: Embracing Possibility

Knight Room at UCMH

“Ask what’s possible, not what’s wrong. Keep asking.”

Margaret J. Wheatley

You only need look around outside these days to see the possibility: the bright green of new tree leaves, flowers showing up in soft hues, lofty breezes, the emergence of young animals. Taking a moment to turn our face toward this light is a choice, of course, one that can be especially challenging to make in the midst of many other things that may be swirling around in our lives. Our very church is on the cusp of a new beginning, new possibilities; at the same time, we may hold in our hearts difficult feelings of loss and grief.

We all – at one time or another – have lived in tiny tales of what the world could be. Part of it has to do with real life defeats. But often a bigger part of it is about imagined fear and protecting ourselves. Maybe embracing possibility has more to do with being able to embrace vulnerability and courage than we’ve thought.

And if that’s true, then it seems that the core question this month isn’t simply “Are you ready to embrace possibility?” but “Who binds up your wounds and tends to your hurt when you risk possibility?” The thread woven through all these questions is, of course, the fundamental truth that no one makes it down the road of possibility alone.

Let’s invite one another into sharing our reflections on Embracing Possibility.
